Musical Masterworks’ Outreach Program brings Imani Winds to New London County schools

11/13/15

Acting on the belief that exposure to live music is vital to childhood development, Musical Masterworks has presented over one hundred interactive music programs to more than 35,000 students in more than twenty local schools.  This year, our Outreach Program featured the Imani Winds, an American wind quintet based in New York.

The Imanis are truly gifted at educating young students through their music.  Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, adventurous collaborations, and inspirational outreach programs.

Last week, the Imani Winds performed in New London at Benny Dover Jackson Middle School, the Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School and at the ISAAC School where they gave a master class for brass players in addition to the school-wide assembly-style performance.  Imani Winds also performed for the after school program at the B.P. Learned Center in New London and at the Integrated Day Charter School in Norwich.
