Sarah Saturnino

Sarah Saturnino is a California-born, Mexican-American mezzo soprano. She is a recent graduate of LA Opera’s Domingo-Colbert-Stein Young Artist Program. While there she has sang the roles of Flora in La Traviata, Third Maid in Der Zwerg, Third Frida Image in El Ultimo Sueño de Frida y Diego, Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia, Jocabed in Moses, and Emilia in Otello.

She recently made her role debuts as Carmen in Carmen and Fricka in Das Rhinegold at Opera Santa Barbara and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She is an alumna of the Santa Fe Opera, Shreveport Opera, and Chautauqua Opera Company. Other role credits include: Meg Page in Falstaff, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Carmen in The Tragedy of Carmen, Maddalena and Giovanna in Rigoletto, Julia Child in Bon Appétit, and Vera Boronel in The Consul. She has performed at companies including: LA Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Painted Sky Opera, Opera San Antonio, and Amarillo Opera.

She is a Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition, a Second Place Winner of the Pasadena Vocal Competition, a Top Ten Finalist of the Mary Jacobs Smith Vocal Competition, a Grand Finalist in the Talents of the World Competition, a Top Ten Finalist in the Brava! Competition, a First Place Winner of the Pacific Northwest Competition, and a Finalist in the Butler International Vocal Competition, and a Semi-Finalist in the Operalia Competition. She recently made her debut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as the Alto Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. She performed in concert at Dayton Opera for their Maria Callas Centennial Celebration Concert.

​She recently performed in the world premiere of Zozobra: The Revenge at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe.

She is currently the Maddalena cover at the Metropolitan Opera in their production of Rigoletto. She will reprise the role of Maddalena at LA Opera in the spring. She will also return to Santa Fe Opera to sing the role of Fricka in Die Walküre. She holds a M.M. from Yale University and a B.A. from UCLA.
