Season 29 Opens October 19th and 20th!

09/13/19

Please join us for the opening concert weekend of our 29th season on Saturday, October 19 at 5pm and Sunday, October 20 at 3pm at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme.  This season, we celebrate the Musical Masterworks debut of the brilliant and impassioned violinist, Stefan Jackiw, alongside the return of the elegant pianist and beloved Musical Masterworks veteran, Gilles Vonsattel. Stefan and Gilles will open the program with the warm and genial Sonata in G Major for Violin and Piano by Mozart; and Edward Arron, Artistic Director, will have the pleasure of joining them for two Piano Trio masterpieces – Maurice Ravel’s vivid and exquisite trio in a minor and Robert Schumann’s heartbreakingly beautiful trio in d minor. We look forward to greeting you from the stage for what promises to be another thrilling season of chamber music at Musical Masterworks.

The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme is a beautiful and acoustically rich venue for chamber music.  Edward Arron describes the significance of the series venue for him: “As I enter my eleventh season as the curator of this concert series, I am more aware than ever of what a truly unique and deeply meaningful experience we all share in the intimate and exquisite First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. For nearly thirty years, audiences and world-class musicians have delighted in passionate and spirited music-making in this magical setting, and I am gratified that Musical Masterworks remains a distinguished sanctuary for this magnificent art form.”

Musical Masterworks’ season runs October 2019 – May 2020 and includes a celebration of Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary in March and May 2020, when concertgoers will have the extraordinary opportunity to hear the complete cycle of Beethoven’s String Quartets.  Click purchase a series subscription ($150 each), a mini subscription ($100 each) or individual tickets ($40 adult; $5 student) or call 860.434.2252.
