Cellist Sarah Rommel is emerging as one of today’s most compelling artistic voices, distinguished by her sincerity, imaginative programming, and deeply expressive musicianship. A sought-after performer, collaborator, educator, and curator, she is known for creating meaningful musical experiences that inspire curiosity while honoring enduring artistic traditions.
Sarah first gained international recognition with Third Prize at the 2014 George Enescu International Cello Competition in Bucharest, Romania. Since then, she has appeared in recital at venues and series including Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars Showcase, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and concert halls across the United States. Praised for her rich sound and colorful artistry, critics have described her performances as “dimensional and expansive” and “captivating.”
An active chamber musician, Sarah performs regularly with the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston and has toured with the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Musicians from Marlboro. Her chamber music collaborations have brought her to renowned stages including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Freer Gallery of Art. International engagements have included tours with Chamber Music New Zealand and performances at the SOTA Resonance Festival in Hyderabad, India.
A passionate advocate for creative programming, Sarah is currently developing the Arioso Project, an ambitious initiative centered on the first commercial recording of a rediscovered work from 1929, paired with newly commissioned compositions exploring themes of adversity, oppression, and resilience. She is also the founder and Artistic Director of Seattle’s Jigsaw Chamber Ensemble.
Sarah holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Peter Wiley, and the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she earned her master’s degree under Ralph Kirshbaum. Based in Seattle, she continues to balance an active performing career with teaching, community engagement, and artistic leadership.
