Pianist, composer, collaborator, and NPR host Peter Dugan is one of classical music’s most versatile and engaging artists. Known for his virtuosic performances, adventurous programming, and commitment to making classical music welcoming to all, Dugan has built a multifaceted career that bridges traditional and contemporary musical worlds.

As host of NPR’s nationally syndicated program From the Top, Dugan shares his passion for music with audiences across the country while mentoring and collaborating with some of the nation’s most talented young musicians. His warmth, curiosity, and enthusiasm have made him a beloved ambassador for classical music and its future.

Dugan has appeared as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout North America and around the world. He has performed with leading orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and New World Symphony. Critics praised his performances of Charles Ives’ Fourth Symphony as both “stunning” and “fearlessly athletic.”

A highly sought-after collaborator, Dugan has toured internationally with renowned violinist Joshua Bell, appearing at prestigious venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, Taipei’s National Theater and Concert Hall, and the Kennedy Center. He has also performed extensively with violinists Charles Yang and Tessa Lark, as well as with acclaimed artists including Renée Fleming, Itzhak Perlman, Paquito D’Rivera, and Victor Wooten.

As a composer and arranger, Dugan’s work has been performed from Carnegie Hall to Joe’s Pub, and his arrangements have been released by Disney+. His creative projects span classical, jazz, pop, and improvisational traditions, reflecting his belief that great music transcends boundaries and genres.

A graduate of The Juilliard School, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Peter Dugan resides in New York City and is a Yamaha Artist. Through his performances, collaborations, and educational outreach, he continues to inspire audiences with artistry, imagination, and a profound love of music.
