Musical Masterworks welcomes the debut of double bassist Michael Thurber in February

12/31/19

Join us at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme on Saturday, February 8th at 5:00pm and Sunday, February 9th at 3:00pm for a program of delights, as we celebrate the return of Musical Masterworks perennial favorite artists, violinist Tessa Lark and pianist Jeewon Park, along with an encore appearance by the extraordinary violist Ettore Causa, and the much-anticipated Musical Masterworks debut of double bassist Michael Thurber. With artistic director and cellist Edward Arron, they will perform Schubert’s iconic and beloved “Trout” Quintet. We will also be treated to a collection of original bluegrass- and jazz-inspired duos for violin and bass composed and performed by Tessa Lark and Michael Thurber. The program also includes the impassioned Piano Quartet in a minor by the Spanish composer Joaquin Turina, and an arrangement for violin, cello and bass of the exquisite g minor Viola da Gamba Sonata by J.S. Bach.

Please join Edward Arron for an in-depth pre-concert talk about the program at 4pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.

Musical Masterworks’ 29th season runs through May 2020 and includes a celebration of Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary on March 13, 14 and 15, and on May 1, 2 and 3, 2020, when concertgoers will have the extraordinary opportunity to hear the complete cycle of Beethoven’s String Quartets.  Click here to purchase tickets.
