Celebrated for her “jaw-dropping” virtuosity, pianist Amy Yang blends visionary artistry with community-driven leadership, performing worldwide, premiering contemporary works, and teaching as Director of Chamber Music at Curtis Institute.
A “jaw-dropping pianist who steals the show…with effortless finesse” (Washington Post), Amy Yang is known for her dazzling artistry and deep commitment to connecting music with community. She serves as Director of Chamber Music and Piano Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Yang has recently performed with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä at the Kimmel Center, toured nationally with Merz Trio, and recorded Schumann’s complete violin sonatas with Alexi Kenney on fortepiano. She has appeared on leading series and festivals including Carnegie Hall, Spoleto, Santa Fe Chamber Music, Bridgehampton, and Chamberfest Cleveland. Her solo recitals have featured works by Brahms, the Schumanns, Rorem, and Ligeti.
She frequently collaborates with leading artists such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Tessa Lark, Richard Goode, Paul Neubauer, and members of the Dover, Jasper, and Aizuri quartets. She has given world premieres by composers including Steve Mackey, Michael Hersch, Richard Danielpour, Caroline Shaw, and Avner Dorman.
During the pandemic, she gave 41 performances at Bravo! Vail with Yefim Bronfman and the Dover Quartet. She also gave her solo recital debut and performed piano quintets by Tania León and Joan Tower for Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. In 2021, she was featured in a PBS Articulate episode produced by Emmy® winner Jim Cotter.
Her festival appearances span Marlboro, Ravinia, Verbier, Prussia Cove, Chamber Music Northwest, and Wigmore Hall. As an advocate for healing through music, she has also performed for patients at Penn Memory Center and hospital ICUs.
A passionate educator and musical leader, Amy Yang continues to inspire with performances that balance virtuosity and heart, while shaping the next generation of artists at Curtis and beyond.
